Welcome to WHY DO I (series), a shareware available program.
This file presents user documentation to help explain how the series
works along with any last minute details.
DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT:
-----------------------
Users of WHY DO I (series) must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
The Shareware evaluation (trial use) version of WHY DO I
(series) is provided AS IS. CleoSci MAKES NO WARRANTY OF ANY
KIND, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY
WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND/OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR
PURPOSE. CleoSci ASSUMES NO LIABILITY FOR DAMAGES, DIRECT OR
CONSEQUENTIAL, WHICH MAY RESULT FROM THE USE OF the WHY DO I
(series).
About WHY DO I (series):
------------------------
WHY DO I (series) is a "shareware system" and is provided at no charge
to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your
friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
another system. The essence of "user-supported" software is to
provide personal computer users with quality software without
high prices while still providing incentive for programmers to
continue development of new products. If you find this program
useful and find that you enjoy WHY DO I (series), you must make a reg-
istration payment of $30.00 {US funds} to CleoSci. "TYPE ORDER.FRM>
PRN" to print the file on your printer, or print ORDER.FRM while
you view it in the README.EXE support file.
Fill out the resulting form and include your $30.00 {US funds} check.
If you wish, you may send your check and your own note indicating a
wish to register WHY DO I (series) to this address:
CleoSci
Attn: Why Do I (series) Registration
P.O. Box 17037
St. Paul, MN 55117
The $30.00 registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like
a book. An example is that this software may be used by any
number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
location to another so long as there is no possibility of its
being used at one location while it is being used at another.
This is just as a book cannot be read by two different persons
at the same time.

The WHY DO I (series) System:
------------------------------
The programs in the series are "load-and-go" types; there are no manuals
needed.
The purpose of this series is to briefly help students understand
the importance of the different primary subjects in the education
curriculum. I am sure we all remember times in school (I know I do)
when we asked, "Why are we learning this?!?" These programs make
their points in funny, interesting ways while using some of the
technology they promote.
WHY DO I (series) was written for use on IBM-PC family/100% compat-
ible systems. It is suggested that the user have at least 256K of RAM
and MS-DOS version 3.0 or newer.
IBM-PC is a trademark of International Business Machines, INC.
MS-DOS is a registered trademark of Microsoft Corporation.
LAST MINUTE INFORMATION:
------------------------
If you do any printing of the support files from the README.EXE view
program, be sure that your printer has enough paper. There are over
twenty pages in all.
In addition, if print/program execution gets stuck in mid-sentence
because you run out of paper or turn your printer off-line, you will
need to replenish the paper or go back on-line to either finish the job
or escape.
This is actually not a programming error! For some reason, MS-DOS and
the ROM BIOS do not have good "error-catching" features when printing
is stopped mid-sentence. This feature has been tested extensively on
MANY programs (including products from large, well-known retail
companies). The result is always the same. Your computer hits a state
of "suspended animation".
Why does this occur? That's a good question! It may be related to the
significant time difference between the computer's processing speed and
the speed at which the printer can receive and print data. It takes
time for the printer to notice that it is out of paper (or off-line) and
to relay that information to the computer. Meanwhile, the computer is
still sending data. Where does this data go? It probably visits the
twilight zone until you correct the problem.
In any case, don't worry. Just keep plenty of paper on hand for print
jobs, and there should be no problem!

CleoSci and GARRETT KRUEGER hope you enjoy using the WHY DO I (series)
and that you will remember to register your use. If you see ways the
program can be improved, feel free to drop us a line. Good luck and enjoy
it!
